PROJEK KHIDMAT MASYARAKAT /ALAM SEKITAR OLEH PANCARAGAM SEKOLAH
LAWATAN BELAJAR SAMBIL MEMBERSIHKAN FRIM
IN FRIM
We got to see an amazing natural phenomenon dubbed 'Canopy Shyness' . It is a mosaic-like pattern formed by the leavers of the trees 'shying' away from each other, leaving distinguishable gaps in between the tree crowns which can be clearly seen from below.
The first plant that greeted us at the 'entrance' was the biggest bamboo plant in the world. The bamboo plant will grow 0.45 mm every night. We also learned that these bamboo plants cannot be used to make lemang because it is too thick.
We were brought to a pond which has dragon fish, a 7-foot long fish. We were asked to clap. When we did that, 3 or 4 of the fishes responded and swam towards us.

SECONDARY SCHOOL ENERGY EFFICIENCY ACTION PROJECT (SSEEAP) 2009

Dear teachers of MGSKL,
Refer to the above subject, as you all know that our school is currently running the Secondary School Energy Efficiency Action Project (SSEEAP) which the main objective of this project is to raise the awareness and build the capacity of students, teachers and staff of MGSKL to access our school energy usage (primarily electricity) in order to motivate us to reduce our use of energy to sustainable levels, thereby also lowering our greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and reducing our climate change ecological footprints.
Here are some of the basic information about energy efficiency.
Energy Efficiency
What is energy efficiency?
Simply put, energy efficiency means using less energy to accomplish the same task. Take the example of boiling water, which option would save more energy? a) use an electrical kettle to boil water or b) use a traditional kettle using gas to boil water. Using a traditional kettle on a gas stove is much more energy efficient from especially system approach.
To be energy efficient is easy. You just need to monitor your use of energy. There are simple changes you can make around the house to save energy, which will save you money as well.
Why is it important?
More efficient use of energy throughout our country results in less money spent on energy by homeowners, schools, government agencies, businesses, and industries. The money that would have been spent on energy can instead be spent on consumer goods, education, services, and products.
As individuals, your home has a direct impact on the environment. Power stations that provide our electricity, generally burn fossil fuels to supply our energy needs. Cars and motorcycles also burn fossil fuels. By burning fossil fuels, large amounts of gases are released into the atmosphere, causing an increase in temperature. This leads to what is known as the greenhouse effect, which is causing global warming. In addition other air pollutants are also generated. All of which impact negatively on our environment.
By being wasteful in energy usage means more energy is being consumed. For example, a normal bulb requires additional units of energy compared to an energy efficient one. These additional units of energy mean more burning of fossil fuels. And this increases the polluting gases in the atmosphere. That is why it is necessary to identify the energy being wasted in the home, and make the necessary adjustments, that will not only help you save money, but will help preserve our environment.

Life's Most Important Lesson
The human spirit can handle much more than we realize.
His name is Nick Vujicic and he's 25 years old. He was born without arms or legs and given no medical reason for this condition. Faced with countless challenges and obstacles, God has given him the strength to surmount what others might call impossible. Along with that, the Lord has placed within him an unquenchable passion to share this same hope and genuine love that he's personally experienced with more than two million people all over the globe.

Japan trip

I’m very happy that I could visit to Japan even though the H1N1is seriously spread in any where in the world. But it is not a reason for us to quit from the Japan trip.
I had remember that the 1st day we had arrived in Chiba Eiwa High School, Japan, the students are having their exam. They sit the exam seriously and try to do it well. They didn’t lie down on the table.
Their seminar house is clean and comfortable. All of us sleep on Futon. This is the 1st time that we are all sleep on Futon.
Japanese are very hardworking and polite. The teachers in Chiba Eiwa High school are also very kind, nice and good take care of us. Teachers on duty will stay together with us. Every day, they will make sure that we had breakfast, lunch and dinner. They also will follow us to visit some places to make sure we are fine and feel comfortable. Before we leave for tourism places, they will send us to the bus and wait us when we reach to school. They did their duty very well, hard and sincere without complained even though they are actually very busy. Their kindness and good take care of us is very touched and warm our heart. We are appreciate what they have done for us.
The scenery in Japan is very beautiful. The weather is cool but we felt good. In Japan, we had visited to Yokohama, Hakone, Kamakura, Enoshima, Tokyo Asaksa, Disney land and so on. It had open our eye sight.
We also had class observation in Chiba Eiwa High School. Students and teachers will running into class when the school bell ring. They are really punctual. We should learnt it from them. The class lesson like physics, biology, maths, music are very interesting. We also enjoy in sport activities. All of us had fun and happy during the sport activities.
They had a welcome party for us. It is simple but open our eyes. Their school band’s performance is very good and high quality. We can’t imagine how hard they practice everyday. We really salute them.
This Japan trip give us many sweet memories. I hope can visit to Japan again.

Protect our children in cyberspace
Today is World Telecommunication & Information Society Day, and the Sunday Star today (17/5//09) carries a useful section which I would like to bring to your attention:
It says: The Internet is good, use it wisely. We need to protect our children / students from the dangers and threats in cyberspace:
a) cyber-bullying
b) pornography
c) violence
d) racial abuse & hate
e) online gaming & addiction
f) online fraud & deception
Now with our school blog and online forum, it will give all of us the freedom to express ourselves. However, we need to be respectful of others and remember not to humiliate or embarrass anyone. Instead, if we need to say something, do so in a constructive manner, using polite language and which will help solve problems instead of create more problems.
Please read more about it in the Sunday Star and it is definitely an useful reminder to all of us.
HAPPY BLOGGING EVERYONE!

HAPPY TEACHERS' DAY
Today is the 16th May 2009. Happy Teachers' Day and may we look forward to another great year with our colleagues and students in the school.
I want to thank each and everyone of you for your contributions to the school, no matter what your position is or what subject you teach, the most important thing is that WE ARE ALL TEACHERS and our students are our main concern and the reason why we are in school. They depend on ALL OF US to give them the direction and guidance to be successful in their studies, co-curricular activities and the development of their character and personality in school. No profession in this world has so much influence on so many people at one time. We are the ones who can "touch heads(minds) and hearts"! The power which has been given to us is very great, so let us shoulder together and make MGSKL a great school for our students.
The accomplishment of our school vision and mission will only take place if we as teachers are serious about it. Yes, we have to toil and work hard, we have to be patient and caring, understanding and sensitive to the students' needs, be emphatatic and yet strict and firm because we are dealing with students who are from all types of background, who are different in temperament and behaviour, who have emotions and feelings which need a lot of nurturing and love............not forgetting that we need to be creative and innovative as well...I am very sure that when we succeed to give them our best, they will appreciate us for the rest of their lives.
Guru-guru sekalian, marilah kita berazam menjadikan MGSKL sebuah sekolah yang memberikan pendidikan terbaik, sebuah tempat yang selesa untuk semua pelajar tanpa mengira latar belakang mereka and menyediakan mereka untuk hidup and menjadi warganegare yang berguna.
I am going to share a few words of wisdom from books which I have read on education:
"THE ONLY WAY EDUCATION IS GOING TO CHANGE IS IF THE CLASSROOM TEACHER MAKES IT HAPPEN", William Glasser
"EACH TEACHER HAS THE POWER TO CHANGE EDUCATION FOR THE BETTER FROM THE INSIDE OUT. IT STARTS DEEP WITHIN HIS OR HER OWN SOUL AND WORKS ITS WAY OUT! EDUCATIO DOESN'T NEED REFORM; IT NEEDS RENEWAL, ONE HEART AT A TIME. LOOK FOR WAYS TO BULID UP OTHERS IN YOUR PROFESSION SO THEY, TOO, CAN BE RENEWED", Vicki Caruana
HAPPY HAPPY TEACHERS' DAY AGAIN!!!!
My best wishes and warmest regards,
Pn Chia
Malaysia confirms first swine flu case: health official
To all teachers,
Just would like to share this info to you all even though I have most of you all have knew about this issue.
Pls be good care our yourelf and also need to remind our students to take extra precaution about this swine flu.
Malaysia's top health official Friday confirmed the country's first case of swine flu amid fears that some of those exposed to the infected patient could have gone on to Indonesia.
"I can confirm (that it) is the first case in Malaysia," health ministry director general Ismail Merican told AFP.
Acting health minister Kong Cho Ha, who addressed a hastily-convened press conference later, said the patient was a 21-year-old male student who arrived on a flight from the United States on May 13, giving no further details as to his identity.
He said the patient came down with fever, sore throat and body aches the next day and was admitted to the Sungai Buloh quarantine facility in central Selangor state on the same evening and is now in stable condition.
He said five family members who live with the patient have been placed under home quarantine in order to monitor their condition.
The government has urged all passengers who travelled on Malaysian airlines flight MH091 from Newark in the United States to Kuala Lumpur, that landed at 7.15am on May 13 to contact the ministry for further instructions.
"No passengers have been quarantined, we are still trying to trace them," Kong said of the 199 passengers and crew onboard the flight.
"We will segregate them (when located). If they have no signs (of the disease) they can go after a certain number of days," he added.
However, he said there was a fear that some of those exposed to the infected patient may have gone on to Indonesia.
"We mention Indonesia because that flight is a code share with (Indonesian carrier) Garuda so the assumption is that there could be some passengers going to Indonesia," he added.
Officials could not immediately confirm how many Indonesians were on board nor if any passengers continued onto Indonesia.
Kong said Malaysia's alert level would remain the same despite its first confirmed swine flu case as the country was already at its highest state of preparedness since the World Health Organisation raised its flu alert to phase five out of six.
"We have been on full alert," said Kong. "We are on a level of full preparedness."
Malaysia is also pushing for the WHO to get affected countries to implement exit screening in order stop the spread of the disease amid concerns that a second wave of the officially named A (H1N1) disease could be deadlier.
"If we can have travellers from affected countries screened before they are allowed to travel out, this will help us to contain the spread of such virus to other places," health minister Liow Tiong Lai told state media before heading off for the 62nd WHO General Assembly in Switzerland from May 18 to 22.
The world health body has not recommended travel restrictions following the outbreak but has advised those who are ill to delay their travel plans and urged returning travellers who fall ill to seek medical treatment.
Health officials could not immediately confirm if Malaysia would be implementing exit screening after confirming its first swine-flu case.
On Tuesday, the government urged its citizens to defer travel to the US, Mexico, Canada, Spain and Britain following reported cases of swine flu in those countries.
Malaysian health authorities have installed 20 thermal scanners at the country's entry points to help detect cases with 9,324 passengers screened so far.
The latest World Health Organisation figures show the number of laboratory-confirmed swine flu cases worldwide is 7,520 in 33 countries. A total of 65 people have died from the disease, most of them in Mexico, WHO figures show.
